Salmon Recovery Project

Here is some ongoing research by Fundy National Park. In October, 2005, 90 salmon of different ages were released into the Point Wolfe River. Some were fished spawned and reared their entire lives in the hachery and have no prior exposure to the wild; others were fish that were captured and then raised. Twenty four fish have radio tags that will allow the Park to track the two groups of fish. "We will be interested in comparing and contrasting the movements of the groups which have some wild exposure to the hatchery raised fish. We also want to see if the wild exposed fish have a a higher reproductive success."

Next summer, the Park hopes to return fish that were earlier captured in the Point Wolfe River - all in the hope that someday there will be larger runs of salmon from rivers flowing from the Park.

Summer Reminder
